Gerund چیست؟

شکل ing فعل که مثل اسم عمل می‌کند. مثال: Swimming is fun.

 is my favorite hobby. (Read)

Reading is my favorite hobby. — وقتی جمله با فعل شروع می‌شود، آن فعل باید Gerund باشد.

I enjoy  (cook) dinner.

I enjoy cooking dinner. — بعد از enjoy همیشه از gerund استفاده می‌کنیم.

She finished  (write) her essay.

She finished writing her essay. — finish همیشه با gerund می‌آید، نه infinitive.

He avoids  (eat) junk food.

He avoids eating junk food.

They suggested  (go) to the beach.

They suggested going to the beach.

Would you mind  (open) the window?

Would you mind opening the window? — عبارت مودبانه برای درخواست.

I need to practice  (speak) English.

I need to practice speaking English.

We are considering  (move) to another city.

We are considering moving to another city.

He keeps  (make) the same mistake.

He keeps making the same mistake. — keep + gerund یعنی انجام مکرر کاری.

She gave up  (smoke) last year.

She gave up smoking last year.

I look forward to  (see) you soon.

I look forward to seeing you soon. — نکته مهم: to اینجا حرف اضافه است نه بخشی از infinitive.

He is used to  (work) at night.

He is used to working at night. — be used to = عادت داشتن به چیزی.

She is interested in  (learn) new languages.

She is interested in learning new languages. — بعد از هر preposition از gerund استفاده می‌شود.

 (leave) the house, check the doors.

Before leaving the house, check the doors.

He watched TV instead of  (study).

He watched TV instead of studying.

She is good at  (paint).

She is good at painting.

I'm interested in  (travel) abroad.

I'm interested in traveling abroad.

We are tired of  (wait).

We are tired of waiting.

It started  (rain).

It started raining / to rain. — این فعل با هر دو شکل درست است و معنی تغییری نمی‌کند.

He stopped  (smoke).

He stopped smoking. (دیگر سیگار نمی‌کشد) — در مقابل He stopped to smoke یعنی ایستاد تا سیگار بکشد؛ معنی کاملاً فرق دارد.

I remember  (lock) the door.

I remember locking the door. (خاطره‌ی انجام کار) — در مقابل Remember to lock the door یعنی یادت باشد انجام بدهی.

Try  (restart) the computer.

Try restarting the computer. (امتحان کردن یک راه‌حل) — در مقابل Try to open the door یعنی تلاش برای انجام کاری سخت.

My hobby is  (collect) stamps.

My hobby is collecting stamps.

I can't help  (laugh) at his jokes.

I can't help laughing at his jokes. — نمی‌توانم جلوی خودم را بگیرم.

She spends hours  (read) novels.

She spends hours reading novels.

This movie is worth  (watch).

This movie is worth watching.

There's no point  (argue) about it.

There's no point arguing about it.

I feel like  (eat) pizza tonight.

I feel like eating pizza tonight. — حس انجام کاری را داشتن.

He admitted  (break) the window.

He admitted breaking the window.
