McCulloch vs. Maryland

Missouri Compromise
Agreement to admit Missouri as a slave state and Maine as a free state, and to ban slavery north of the 36°30′ line in the Louisiana Territory. Temporarily eased sectional tensions over slavery, but exposed the growing divide between North and South.
