4th Amendment
Protects from unreasonable search and seizure.
5th Amendment
The right to a free trial, requiring that persons must be warned of rights 1st.
6th Amendment
The right to a speedy trial with assistance.
7th Amendment
Resolves disputes within jury trial.
8th Amendment
Protects against excessive bail and cruel unusual punishment.
Warren Court
It made the court to give more protection to criminal defendants.
Misdemeanor / Infraction
A crime punishable or a violation of a law not punishable by imprisonment.
Habeas Corpus
The legal process where a prisoner petitions a court to bring them before a judge to determine if their imprisonment is lawful.
Voir Dire
Jury selection.
Parole / Probation
Court ordered supervision instead of serving time in prison / supervised release after serving part of a prison sentence.
Restitution
Money a convicted person may be ordered to pay to the victim.
Mental State (Criminal Law)
An element of criminal law addressing whether you intended to commit the crime and felt guilty when doing the crime.
Conduct (Criminal Law)
An element of criminal law where intentions were innocent but resulted in something.
