the purpose of this tissue is to create a protective barrier to KEEP OUT → water, chemicals, or physical abrasions on 1 side of the lining

this tissue serves in the function of Selective Permeability

• meaning that only certain molecules can pass through → they can do this by making smaller holes in the tissue to ONLY ALLOW certain cells through OR only opening specific channels in these cells

• also deals with secretion & absorption

What occurs in the Small Intestine?

this is where we take simple molecules (that have ALREADY been digested from the food we ate) → into the Blood Stream so that we can use them

Absorption :

molecules passing through the Epithelial Cells

Another Function of this tissue = Sensation

our skin is FULL of touch receptors → which are embedded within this tissue on the MOST superficial/outermost layer
