This set of vocabulary flashcards covers the definitions of infantry roles, training procedures at ITC Catterick, essential weapons, fieldcraft skills, and the CDRILS values of the British Army.

Infantry

The Army's ground close-combat capability composed of soldiers who fight and operate on the ground, training to operate on foot and deploy by land, air, or sea.

Fieldcraft

The collection of skills needed to operate effectively in the field, including Camouflage, Concealment, Movement, Observation, Navigation, Living/operating outdoors, and Tactical skills.

Light Role Infantry

Infantry that fight primarily on foot and can deploy by land, air or sea, equipped with infantry weapons, communications, and surveillance equipment.

Armoured Infantry

Infantry that operate with armoured vehicles, providing protection and firepower while getting soldiers to where they are needed.

Mechanised Infantry

Infantry that use wheeled armoured vehicles to move quickly over distances and can dismount to fight on foot.

ITC Catterick

The Infantry Training Centre where the 28-week Infantry Soldier course, combining Basic Training and Infantry Initial Trade Training, is conducted.

SA80

The standard rifle used by the British Army.

UGL

Underslung Grenade Launcher; a grenade launcher attached to or used with the rifle system.

LSW

Light Support Weapon.

Light Mortar

An indirect-fire weapon used to support infantry.

CDRILS

An acronym representing the Army Values: Courage, Discipline, Respect for Others, Integrity, Loyalty, and Selfless Commitment.

Courage

Doing what is right even when you're scared or under pressure.

Discipline

Following orders, rules, and standards, and controlling yourself.

Respect for Others

Treating people properly regardless of who they are.

Integrity

Being honest, trustworthy, and doing the right thing.

Loyalty

Being loyal to your teammates, leaders, and the Army.

Selfless Commitment

Putting the team, mission, and others before yourself when required.

28 weeks.
