Rescue, Alarm, Confine, Extinguish

Radial

Of the radius, the smaller bone of the forearm

Range of Motion (ROM)

The extent it limit to which a part of the body can be moved around a joint or a fixed point

Rectal

By or having to do with the rectum

Reminiscing

the act or process of recalling past experiences, events, or memeories.

Reposition

the movement of patients from one position to another in order to alleviate pressure on the patients body. (this is done in order to help prevent the creation of pressure sores)

Respiration

the act of breathing using the lungs

Restorative care

focuses on maximizing an optimal level of functioning, enabling patients to regain/retain their independence following the debilitating effects of illness or injury.

Restraint

Devices that limit a patients movement in order to keep them safe.

Risk Factor

A variable that increases the chance of developing a disease.

Seizure

a burst of uncontrolled electrical activity in the brain

Soiled Linen

any fabric that is dirtied from food, fluids from the human body, including blood, saliva and vomit, or from other item

Standard Precautions

the basic level of infection control that should be used in the case of all patients all of the time. (washing hands, wearing gloves, etc.)

Subjective

Information that comes from the resident.

Sundowning

a state of confusion that occurs in the late afternoon and lasts into the night

suprapubic

situated, occuring, or performed from above the pubis.

Tachycardia

The heart is beating faster than normal, usually over 100 BPM.

Tendons

A fibrous connective tissue that attaches muscle to bone

Thickened liquids

A medical dietary adjustment that thickens the consistency of fluids to prevent choking. (this typically occurs when the patient has difficulty swallowing)

Tympanic

Pertaining to the tympanum (the eardrum)
