Element
Substance made up of only one type of atom (e.g., Gold).
Compound
A substance made up of two or more atoms chemically bonded together (e.g. H2O).
Al2O3
Compound containing 2 Aluminum atoms and 3 Oxygen atoms.
CaBr2
Compound containing 1 Calcium atom and 2 Bromine atoms.
CH4
Compound containing 1 Carbon atom and 4 Hydrogen atoms.
O3
Element containing 3 Oxygen atoms.
Metals Properties
Shiny, malleable, ductile, good conductors of electricity and heat, solid.
Non-Metals Properties
Brittle, dull, not ductile, poor conductors, mostly gases or brittle solids.
Groups (Periodic Table)
Vertical columns in the periodic table.
Periods (Periodic Table)
Horizontal rows in the periodic table.
Solid (Water)
Molecules tightly packed.
Liquid (Water)
Molecules close together but slide past each other.
Gas (Water)
Molecules are far apart and zoom past one another.
Chemical Change Signs
Change in color, sound or light produced, formation of gas, change in temperature, formation of or disappearance of solid.

Independent Variable
Something that changes.
Dependent Variable
Something you measure.
Controlled Variable
Everything kept the same.
