genocide

the deliberate and systematic destruction of a racial, ethnic, national, or cultural group (This often involves mass killings, but can also include actions aimed at the destruction of cultural identity, such as forced displacement, cultural erasure, and suppression of the group's language and traditions.)

othering

the act of treating or considering a person or group as alien or fundamentally different from oneself or one's own group, often due to racial, sexual, or cultural characteristics, creating an "us vs. them" dynamic that can lead to marginalization and inequality

ethnic cleansing

a purposeful policy of mass expulsion or killing of members of an unwanted ethnic or religious group in a society to remove them from a geographic area

human rights

the basic rights to which all people are entitled as human beings

dehumanizing

depriving someone of human qualities, personality, or dignity: often involving treating someone like an animal or object through degrading conditions or treatment

ideology

a system of ideas, ideals and core beliefs that form a worldview or provide a basis for a political, economic, or social system

apartheid

the legal separation of races into different geographic areas

resistance

a situation in which people or organizations fight against something or refuse to accept or be changed by something

humanizing

giving human qualities or character to someone or something; or portraying someone in a way that emphasizes their individuality and relatable human traits; or making or becoming more humane, kind, or gentle

protest

the act of making a strong public expression of disagreement and disapproval

civil disobedience

a nonviolent, public refusal to obey a law or laws believed to be unjust

reconciliation

the act of coming to an understanding and putting an end to hostility, as when former enemies agree to a friendly truce
