Rectilinear Motion
motion in a straight line in a single dimension
Displacement
position, where an object sits on a straight line, distances from origin
Velocity
How fast an object is moving (m/s)
Acceleration
How quickly an objects speed is changing (m/s)
Uniformly accelerated motion
motion with a constant acceleration
Uniform rectilinear motion
motion with no acceleration at all
Vector
quatities with both magnitude (distance) and direction e.g. velocity and displacement (and more often than not acceleration)
Scalar
quatities with only magnitude (distance) and no direction e.g. speed and distance
Handling vectors
Make one positive (right) and one negative (left)
Instantaneous velocity
velocity you are traveling at a specific moment in time
Average velocity
velocity that we define as how quickly your position is traveling over time
Equation for average velocity
Vav = d/t
Relative velocity
how fast a moving observer sees objects moving around them
Equation for relative velocity
VAB = VA - VB (A is relative to (as viewed by) B)
