Bronsted-Lowry Model
States that acids donate a H+ ion to the base and the base accepts the H+ ion.
Conjugates
Formed when Bronsted-Lowry acids and bases react.
Conjugate Acid
Formed from a Bronsted-Lowry base.
Conjugate Base
Formed from a Bronsted-Lowry acid.
pH
A measure of hydronium (H3O+) ion concentration in an aqueous solution.
Acids
Ranges from 0-7 on the pH scale.
Bases
Ranges from 7-14 on the pH scale.
Neutral Solution
Has a pH of 7.
Acids
Turns blue litmus paper red.
Bases
Turns red litmus paper blue.
Kw
The equilibrium constant representing the concentration of an aqueous solution with equal amounts of hydronium and hydroxide ions.
pH
Represents the potential of hydrogen ions (H+) or hydronium ions (H3O+).
pOH
Represents the potential of hydroxide ions (OH-).
