29.92: FL 180
29.91-28.92: FL 190
28.91-27.92: 200
Define the terms “estimated altimeter” and “altimeter setting.”:
Altimeter Setting: The barometric pressure reading used to adjust a pressure altimeter for variations in existing atmospheric pressure or to the standard altimeter setting
Estimated Altimeter: Use the term “Estimated Altimeter” for altimeter settings reported or received as estimated.
State the reasons when the altimeter needs to be issued to an aircraft:
When relaying departure information
When relaying landing information
When issuing a clearance to airborne aircraft
When giving approach information
When proving approach control service to VFR aircraft
Define the terms “QNE” and “QNH.”:
QNE: The barometric pressure used for the standard altimeter setting (29.92 inches Hg.).
QNH: The barometric pressure as reported by a particular station.
Define the term “Have Numbers.”
Used by pilots to inform ATC that they have received runway, wind, and altimeter information only.
State the correct way to issue an altimeter setting:
You would say the altimeter setting in separate digit form. Ex: Luke altimeter two-niner-niner-two.
Describe what the SAA controller must do when the altimeter changes
Make sure to update the altimeter on the scope
