Ike left most parts of the New Deal intact such as Social Security Cold War crises in a) Suez, b) Cuba, c) Korea, d) U-2 (USSR) Civil Rights catch Ike off guard + he is unsupportive (MLK + Rosa Parks) initially He appoints Earl Warren as Chief Justice and  Warren expands civil rights, forcing Ike to enforce federal law President at the start of the “Space Race” + when Sputnik (USSR) launched 1957 Increased education funding for math and science and builds millions of miles of highways with the Highway Act. Warns the US about the coming of the permanent weapons industry or as he calls it the Industrial Military Complex, who profits from war.

Passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 which transform American life and expand the rights of African-Americans in the South Great Society was his war on poverty that expands government and increases modern welfare state
