Hazardous Waste Manifest
A set of forms, reports, and procedures designed to continuously track hazardous waste from the time it leaves the generator facility until it reaches its final resting stop at the off-site waste management facility that will store, treat, or dispose of the hazardous waste. (8700-22)
Toxic Substance Control Act (TSCA)
Regulates the production, use, and disposal of toxic chemical substances. Requires industry to give notice to the Feds of a new chemical or use for an existing chemical
Superfund
Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, & Liability Act (CERCLA) ________ regulates leachate and other releases of hazardous substances from abandoned hazardous waste sites operating prior to Nov 1980. Feds require the “person” who generated or transported the waste to cleanup or Feds use ________ money to cleanup. (same word twice)

Modern landfills are designed to contain leachate and minimize release of pollutants (including odors and gas) from the landfill by utilizing these three items
Valley or Ravine Method
Natural depressions of earth are filled with refuse
USUALLY BEST method of operation
Most commonly used in big cities
Area or Ramp Method
In a fairly level or rolling terrain refuse is piled on top until the rolling terrain becomes level or a mound is formed
Trench Method
Used on level ground, are excavated and refuse is deposited and a mount is formed in the end.
Single Liner
Landfill liner:
One liner consisting of compacted soil (preferably soil) or geomembrane
Composite Liner
Landfill liner: (Subtitle D or regular MSW)
A single layer of compacted soil and geomembrane in intimate contact
Double layer
Landfill liner: (subtitle C or Haz Waste)
System with a low permeability layers with a leak detection system layer in-between. The upper and lower components are either compacted soil, geomembrane, or composite.
