Equilibrium Condition
A state where the free energy change (ΔG) is equal to zero, indicating no net change in the system.
ΔG < 0
Indicates that a reaction is spontaneous under the given conditions.
ΔG = 0
Indicates that a system is at equilibrium; there is no net change in the concentrations of reactants and products.
ΔG > 0
Indicates that a reaction is non-spontaneous in the forward direction; energy must be supplied to proceed.
Standard Free Energy Change (ΔG°)
The change in free energy under standard conditions (1 bar, 25°C) for a given reaction.
When ΔG is negative…
it indicates that a reaction is spontaneous in the forward direction.
When ΔG is positive…
it indicates that a reaction is non-spontaneous in the foward direction
