Divergent Plate boundary
When two plates move away from each other, a gap or rift between them is created.
Rift valley
When the gap eventually widens during divergent plate boundaries.
Mid-oceanic ridge
It is a mountain system that is formed on the seafloor and produced by the divergent boundaries that are between oceanic plates.
Convergent Plate boundary
Occurs when two plates slide toward each other and form either a subduction zone or an orogenic belt.
Orogenic belt
A region of deformed rocks that is formed when two plates collide and one plate crumples and is uplifted.
Oceanic-oceanic, oceanic-continental, continental-continental convergence.
Three kinds of convergence.
Oceanic trench
A long, narrow depression in the ocean floor. This is also created at the subduction zone.

What happens when two continental plates collide?
Earthquake
Refers to the shaking of Earth as a result of the breaking or shifting of the rocks of the tectonic plates, which releases seismic energy.
Faults
Are cracks on Earth’s crust.
Three types of faults.
Normal fault, reverse fault, and strike-slip fault.
Fault plane
The surface where the blocks slip past each other is called?
Dip-slipo
Refers to the movements of faults along the angle of the fault plane.
Dip
The angle of movement is called the?
Slip
What is the movement of a Dip-slip fault called?
Normal fault or Reverse fault
What are the classifications of Dip-slip faults?
Normal fault
A dip-slip fault where a block that sits on a fault plane, called the hanging wall, slips downward with respect to the footwall along the dip angle.
Reverse faults
Type of Dip-slip fault where the block of Earth’s crust pushes upward and along the dip angle.
Thrust fault
Is a type of reverse fault where the angle of the dip is 45 degrees or less.
Strike-slip fault
A nearly vertical fault planes or surfaces slide in parallel but opposite directions.
Oblique-slip fault
A combination of a strike-slip and a dip-slip.

Erup of Moun Pinatubo On June 15, 1991.
Noted as the second most powerful eruption of the twentieth century
Japan
