Team
A group of people with complementary skills who work together to achieve a specific goal.
Groupthink
The tendency to conform to group pressure in making decisions, while failing to think critically or to consider outside influences.
Technical Skills
Skills needed to perform certain tasks.
Decision-Making and Problem-Solving Skills
Skills needed to identify problems, evaluate alternative solution, and decide on the best options.
Interpersonal Skills
Skills in listening, providing feedback, and resolving conflict.
Task Facilitating Roles
Roles that address accomplishing team goals, which are especially valuable when assignments aren't clear or when progress is too slow.
Relationship-Building Roles
Roles that address maintaining or improving group cohesiveness, including activities that improve team chemistry from empathizing to confronting.
Blocking Roles
Roles consisting of behavior that inhibits either team performance or that of individual members.
Self-Managed Teams
Teams that hold authority and decision-making power.

Cross-Functional Teams
Teams composed of individuals with different skill sets across functional areas like accounting, marketing, and engineering.
Obstacles to Success
Groupthink, motivation and frustration, unwillingness to cooperate, lack of managerial support, and failure of managers to delegate authority

Team Blocks
Lack of trust, inability to resolve conflict, lack of goal clarity, poorly defined roles and responsibilities, relationship issues, and a negative atmosphere
Traits of Leading Teams
Demonstrate integrity, be clear and consistent, acknowledge common points of view, manage agreement and disagreement, encourage and coach, and share information
Key Characteristics of Teams
Size, similarity, success, exclusiveness, competition, function interdependently, require stability, hold authority and decision making power, operate in a social context, and share accountability for specific common goals.
Types of Teams
Self-Managed teams, manager led teams, cross-functional teams, and virtual teams
