Correlation Coefficient (R)
Measures the strength of a linear relationship.
The closer it gets to 1 or -1, the stronger the correlation.
The positive or negative tells you the direction.
Coefficient of Determination (R2)
Measures the proportion of the variance in the dependent variabe that can be predicted form the independent variable
Ex: R2 = .64 means 64% of the variation in dependent variable is explained by independent variable.
What does the slope of the regression line represent?
The change in Y for each 1-unit change in X
What should residual plots look like?
Scattered.
Outliers effect on R2
Depends on location in relation to data and regression.
