• was split up like the whole country (4 power control)

• berlin remined under 4 power control within W & E Berlin/Germany

Western European integration

the process of creating a west europe that was politically, economically, and militarily united. supported by the US but not USSR

Reichmark/Ostmark

• Reichsmark: nazi germany currency that lost value but still used until 1948

• Deutschmark: western germany currency introduced by US

• Ostmark: soviet response to deutschmark, new east german currency

Berlin Blockade

• E G blockade over berlin bc of currency

• to hold west berlin hostage so the US would leave

• blocked roads, trails, highways w military

• caused airlift

• made stalin realize that the US wouldn’t leave berlin so they had a meeting to end it

Berlin Airlift

• western response to blockade

• us wanted to fight through but uk said no

• sent planes w food and medical supplies (candy bomber)

• military planes were sent bc they are the biggest
