Career
The long-term journey of work, learning, experience, and development a person takes through their working life in a particular field or area of interest.
Job
Work done to earn money; usually a specific position or role that a person has at a particular time.
Occupation
A specific type of work or profession, such as Graphic Designer.
Creative Industry
People and organisations involved in creating, producing, distributing, or commercialising creative and cultural products and services.
Full-time Employment
Working a regular number of hours each week, usually for one employer, such as 40 hours per week.
Part-time Employment
Working fewer hours per week than a full-time employee.
Contract Work
Working for an employer or organization for a specific period or project, usually governed under a formal agreement.
Freelance Work
Working independently and taking on projects or clients without being a permanent employee of any company.
Self-employment
Working for yourself rather than being employed by another person or company.
Entrepreneurship
Creating and running a business, often with the objective of growing it and generating income or employment.
Technical / Hard Skills
Specific skills that can be learned and demonstrated, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, camera operation, and video editing.
Soft Skills
Personal and interpersonal attributes that affect how an individual works with themselves and others, such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and time management.
Transferable Skills
Skills that can be taken with you and utilized across different jobs, industries, and situations.
SMART Goals
Career goals structured to be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound.
Career Planning
The structured process of understanding yourself, exploring opportunities, choosing a direction, setting goals, developing skills, taking action, and reviewing progress.
Skills Gap
The difference between the skills a person currently possesses and the skills required to achieve their specific career goal.
Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
The ongoing process of continuously improving knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and professional practice as industries, technologies, client expectations, and consumer behaviours evolve.
