Kaiser Permanente Riverside initiative to prepare students for healthcare careers through experiential education and partnerships with multiple health systems.
CoHealth Solutions
The organization that oversees the CoPilot Scholar Program and coordinates with healthcare facilities to place scholars on-site.
Health Scholar
A participant in the CoPilot Scholar Program who learns patient-centered care by working alongside clinicians and hospital staff.
Program Manager
Leader who runs the CoPilot Scholar Program on-site and coordinates with the regional manager and the training team.
Regional Manager
Supervisor overseeing the CoHealth Solutions program within the Inland Empire, including multiple sites.
Leave of Absence (LOA)
Formal pause in participation; requires at least two weeks’ notice (medical emergencies may exception); rules on duration and processing.
Department Specific Training (DST)
Department-oriented training and orientation within a department during the program.
Pre Rotational Shift (PRS)
Shadowing opportunity in a department before active shifts to gain exposure and understanding of the department.
Scope of Service
Defined guidelines of what health scholars can and cannot do based on training and licensure; decline tasks outside scope.
Academic Integrity
Policy prohibiting lying, cheating, or stealing; includes examples like falsifying information or plagiarism.
Falsification of Hours
Recording false times or having others sign in/out; grounds for dismissal and loss of graduation eligibility.
Graduation Requirements
Total hours: 280 (minimum 244); care navigator: 250; complete rotation; attend meetings; complete alumni survey and exit interview; return badge.
Timekeeping (EZ Shifts)
Electronic system for clocking in/out; requires GPS location; paper timesheet as fallback; falsification leads to dismissal.
Dress Code
Professional uniform: white polo, khaki pants, white/neutral shoes; badge visible; long sleeves rules; hair pulled back; minimal jewelry.
Personal Devices Policy
Phones and personal devices off or stored during shifts; site devices usage limited; devices on airplane mode; privacy and safety focus.
Emergency Procedures
Emergency exits and fire extinguisher locations; follow signage and exit routes for safety.
Attendance and Meetings
Must attend program meetings; punch in/out for full meeting hours; valid excuses required; late arrivals reduce credit.
Scheduling Rules
Shifts posted monthly; first-of-month selection based on availability and commitments; changes affect rescheduled shift allowances.
Hours Per Day/Week
Maximum 12 consecutive hours per day with a 30-minute break; maximum 40 hours per week; up to three shifts in a day.
Graduation Process
Meet completion hours and requirements, submit completion details, complete alumni survey and exit interview, return badge; graduation after rotation.
