Prime Mover/Agonist
The muscle that primarily performs a specific action.
Synergist
Muscle that assists the prime mover/agonist in performing an action.
Antagonist
Muscle that performs the opposite action of the prime mover/agonist.
Fixator
Muscle that stabilizes an area or joint while an action is being performed.
Aerobic Metabolism
The process in which cells utilize oxygen to produce energy to function properly.
ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate)
A molecule that allows the transport of important nutrients and stores energy for future use in the cell.
Anaerobic Metabolism
The process in which ATP is produced without the presence of oxygen.
