Body Plane

Imaginary vertical or horizontal lines used to divide the body into sections for descriptive purposes

Vertical plane

up and down at right angle to the ground or horizon

Sagittal plane

divides the body into unequal right and left portions

Midsaggittal plane (midline)

divides the body into equal left and right planes

Frontal (or coronal) plane

vertical plane that divides the body into front (anterior) and back (posterior) portions at right angles to the Sagittal plane

Horizontal planes

parallel to the ground or horizon

Transverse plane

divides the body into upper (superior) and lower (inferior) portions, it can be at the waist or at any level in the body
