GWAS
Genome-Wide Association Study, a study that looks for genetic variants associated with traits.
SNP
Single Nucleotide Polymorphism, a variation at a single position in a DNA sequence among individuals.
Fine mapping
The process of zooming in on a specific genomic region to identify variants between molecular markers.
Reference population
A group of individuals used to assess the phenotype-genotype connections and SNP effects for a specific breeding population.
Effective Breeding Values (EBVs)
Predicted values that estimate the genetic merit of an individual for a particular trait.
Genomic Estimated Breeding Value (GEBV)
An estimated breeding value derived from genomic data, calculated using SNP genotypes and their effects.
Predictive SNPs
SNPs identified as useful for predicting phenotypes in a given population.
Allele
One of two or more versions of a gene that are found at a specific locus.
SNP effect
The impact that each SNP has on the phenotype of an individual.
Biallelic
Referring to alleles that exist in two forms, one inherited from each parent.
