separate the gingival with the periosteal elevators

loosen tooth away from the bone with straight elevators

remove tooth with forceps
150 forcep - maxillary
151 forcep - mandibular
23 cowhorn - mandibular molars with exposed furcations
8th step
irrigate with saline solution
9th step
check extraction site with surgical curette
10th step
place suture if needed
11th step
place gauze and have patient apply pressure for 5-10 minutes
12th step
review post op instructions
13th step
remove and check for controlled bleeding
14th step
if bleeding is under control replace gauze and send patient home
15th step
if bleeding is not under control replace gauze and keep patient until bleeding is controlled
Post op instructions
Drink lots of fluids and eat soft foods
do not use straw
keep ice on face for 24hrs
bleeding is normal for several hours after surgery
no smoking
one week follow up may be scheduled to remove sutures
