Union rights

The union and the county reserve the rights to file with P.E.R.C for a clarification of the bargaining agreement.

Governing laws

This contract shall be governed by the laws of the state of Florida and relevant district ordinances and resolutions.

Invalid agreement clause

If any part of the agreement is deemed invalid, the employer and the union shall negotiate a replacement immediately.

Time off for union activities

The union president or secretary or alternate shall be allowed up to 3 weeks off to attend union events without pay.

Negotiation team leave

Up to 4 members of the union's negotiation team are allowed off with pay for scheduled bargaining meetings.

Labor Management Committee composition

The committee consists of 3 members from the union and 3 members designated by the Fire Chief.

Absence notification

Employees must notify the Fire Chief immediately when a prosecuting official files information against them.

County management rights

The county reserves all rights and powers customarily exercised by management, except where restricted by the agreement.

Grievance definition

A grievance is a claimed violation of the agreement, including disciplinary actions.

Vacation leave accrual for shift employees

Shift employees shall earn 132 hours of vacation leave for the first 5 years of continuous service.

Medical leave accumulation limits

For employees hired before May 25, 2015, medical leave can accumulate up to 1200 hours, and for those hired after, up to 600 hours.

Tobacco use policy

Employees hired after October 1, 2000, must abstain from tobacco use both on and off duty.

Shift exchange hours

Employees may exchange shifts up to 312 hours per fiscal year if it does not interfere with operations.

Bereavement leave details

Regular full-time bargaining unit employees may take up to 2 shifts leave with pay or 3 consecutive working days for bereavement.

Promotional exam timing

Promotional exams for bargaining unit positions shall be held during August and September.

Shift assignment schedule

Shift employees shall be assigned to a schedule of 24 hours on duty followed by 48 hours off duty.

Kelly Days

Effective June 1, 2024, shift employees will be granted an unpaid scheduled day every 6 weeks as Kelly Days.
