External environment

Includes all the elements existing outside of the organizational boundries that have the potential to affect the organization. (competitors, resources, technology and economis conditions)

General environment

Mostly affects organizations indirectly, including social, economic, legal-political, international, natural and technological factors

task environment

Closer to the organization itself and includes the sectores that conduct day-to-day transactions with the organization and directly influence its basic operations and performance (competitors, labour supply, suppliers and consumers)

Environment uncertainty

Environment characteristics that influence uncertainty are the number of factors that affect the organization and the extent to which those factors change

Adapting to the environment

Environment changes may evolve unexpectedly, such as shifting customers tastes for social media sites.
