Rule #1: Yes and…
Accepting the created reality and adding more to it. Encourages collaboration with your partner or group.
Rule #2: Add Info
You are creating a world so keep building it. You are also generating a story.
Rule #3: Don’t Block
Denial destroys what has been established and stops the addition of new information. It’s a way of maintaining control and not working collaboratively.
Rule #4: Avoid Questions
Questions force your partner to fill in the info and do all the work. But questions can lead to more discovery.
Rule #5: Focus
Focus on what is going on in the moment and what your partner is giving you. Don’t go back to a previous thought. Focus on the here and now.
Rule #6: Establish a location
Somewhere at some time in some era. Easy to establish with a sentence or two.
Rule #7: Be specific
Details! Flesh out characters, actions, locations, thoughts, feelings, emotions, walks, talks, etc.
Rule #8: ABC
Always be changing! For the audience to stay engaged, characters must change and evolve to keep the scene interesting. Go on a journey.
Rule #9: If serious…
Focus on the relationships of the characters on stage. Dig deep to reveal more about the character. Use silences, it’s okay.
Rule #10: For humor…
Commit to a choice and really go for it. You can always take a suggestion literally.
