Asphyxia
A condition resulting from impaired gas exchange, leading to decreased blood oxygen levels and excess carbon dioxide.
Hypoxemia
Low oxygen levels in the blood.
Hypercarbia
An excess of carbon dioxide in the bloodstream.
Metabolic acidosis
A condition characterized by an increase in acid in the body's fluids, often a result of asphyxia.
Newborn resuscitation
The process of assisting newborns who fail to breathe spontaneously at birth.
Neonatal asphyxia
A condition where a newborn does not receive enough oxygen before, during, or right after birth.
Stimulation

A medical procedure to insert a tube into the trachea to maintain an open airway.
Pulse oximeter
A non-invasive device used to monitor the oxygen saturation level of a patient's blood.
Signs of asphyxia
Difficulty breathing, cyanosis (bluish skin), altered mental status, and rapid heart rate.
Symptoms of asphyxia
Shortness of breath, wheezing, confusion, fatigue, and loss of consciousness.
Risk factors for asphyxia
Obstruction of the airway (such as choking), drowning, tight clothing, severe asthma, and certain medical conditions affecting respiratory function.
