Word Processor
An electronic device or computer software application used for composing, editing, formatting, and printing documents.
Microsoft Word
A word processing software developed by Microsoft and first released on Oct 25, 1983; also commonly known as MS Word.
Quick Access Toolbar
A toolbar in Microsoft Word that provides fast access to frequently used commands.
Ribbon
The main command center in Microsoft Word containing tabs and groups of tools.
File Tab
A tab that opens the "backstage" view for document management, including Info, Protect, Inspect, and Versions.
Dialog Box Launcher
A small arrow in the corner of a group that opens more advanced settings.
Status Bar
Displays document information such as page count, word count, and language.
Formatting
Refers to changing the appearance of text to make it more attractive and organized.
Styles
Predefined sets of formatting options applied with one click to ensure consistency, save time, and help create automatic Tables of Contents.
Themes
Coordinated design elements (colors, fonts, effects) that change the overall look of a document to maintain a professional appearance.
Layout
Refers to the arrangement and organization of the entire document on the page.
Section Breaks
Feature that divides a document into separate sections, allowing each to have its own formatting (types include Next Page, Continuous, Even Page, and Odd Page).
Table of Contents (TOC)
A list of main headings and subheadings with page numbers to help readers navigate the document.
Index
An alphabetical list of important terms and the page numbers where they appear.
SmartArt
A feature in Microsoft Word that converts text into visual diagrams like hierarchies or processes.
Real-Time Co-Authoring
A collaboration feature allowing multiple users to edit a document simultaneously and see changes instantly.
Microsoft Excel
A multi-platform spreadsheet application developed by Microsoft for Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS used for data organization, calculation, and visualization.
Active Cell
The specific cell currently selected in Excel, which can be edited, modified, or used for data entry.
Cell Reference
The unique name or address of an active cell, visible in the top-left corner of the Excel interface.
Formula Bar
Located at the top of the Excel application, this bar displays the specific content or formula residing within the selected cell.
Formulas (Excel)
Manual expressions created by the user to calculate the specific value of a cell (e.g., =A1+A2).
Functions (Excel)
Predefined commands natively available within Excel to simplify complex calculations (e.g., =SUM).
IF Function
Checks whether a condition is true or false and returns a result based on the answer; formula structure is =IF(logical_test,value_if_true,value_if_false).
VLOOKUP Function
Searches for a value in the first column of a table and returns related information from another column; formula structure is =VLOOKUP(lookup_value,table_array,col_index_num,[range_lookup]).
AND Function
Checks multiple conditions and returns TRUE only when all conditions are true; formula structure is =AND(logical1,logical2,...).
INDEX Function
Returns a value from a specific row and column within a selected range or table; formula structure is =INDEX(array,row_num,[column_num]).
CONCATENATE Function
Combines two or more text values into one text string; formula structure is =CONCATENATE(text1,text2,...).
LEFT Function
Extracts a specified number of characters from the left side of a text string; formula structure is =LEFT(text,num_chars).
RIGHT Function
Extracts a specified number of characters from the right side of a text string; formula structure is =RIGHT(text,num_chars).
MID Function
Extracts a specific number of characters from the middle of a text string; formula structure is =MID(text,start_num,num_chars).
DATE Function
Creates a date using separate year, month, and day values; formula structure is =DATE(year,month,day).
TIME Function
Creates a time using separate hour, minute, and second values; formula structure is =TIME(hour,minute,second).
PowerPoint
A presentation graphics program originally developed by Dennis Austin and Thomas Rudkin of Forethought, Inc. as "Presenter" and purchased by Microsoft in 1987.
Slide Master
A central feature in PowerPoint used to control the design, layout, and formatting of all slides simultaneously.
Custom Template
A reusable design in PowerPoint containing consistent themes, fonts, and layouts, saved in the file format "PowerPoint Template (*.potx)".
Entrance Animations
Visual effects in PowerPoint that control how objects appear on a slide (e.g., Fade In, Fly In).
Motion Paths
Custom animations in PowerPoint that move an object along a specific route (e.g., Curves, Loops).
Email Automation
The process of sending emails automatically based on specific triggers, actions, or pre-set schedules without manual intervention.
Auto Responder
A specialized email automation feature that instantly sends a pre-written reply when an incoming email is received.
Email Delegation
Allowing a trusted person to manage your inbox (reading/replying, organizing folders, managing calendars) without sharing your password.
2FA (Two-Factor Authentication)
A security verification method requiring a password plus one other verification method, such as a phone code.
MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication)
A security verification method using two or more factors, such as a password, OTP, and fingerprint.
Digital Signature
A security feature that proves the identity of the sender and ensures the email message has not been altered.
