Phonological processes
known as error patters/ simplification error patterns
Pre-vocalic voicing
turning a voiceless sound before a vowel into a voiced sound. e.g “cat becomes gat”.
Word final deletion
Voiced C at the end of the word turns into a voiceless C. e.g “bad becomes bat”
Final consonant deletion
Last C of the word is not pronounced/omitted. e.g “boat becomes bo”
Palatal Fronting
changing “sh” and “zh” sounds to “s” or “z” e.g she becomes see
Velar fronting
Back sounds are replaced by front sounds. e.g “car becomes tar”
Cluster reduction
Removing a C from a cluster reduction or replacing a C from the cluster with something else. e.g “spoon becomes poon or spoon becomes kpoon?"
Consonant Harmony
Sound of the word is influenced by a sound that the word must contain. e.g “cup becomes pup”
Gliding of liquids
Liquid sounds are replaced by glides. e.g” rabbit becomes wabbit, lolli becomes wowi”
Weak Syllable deletion
Not pronouncing the unstressed( weak) syllables in a word. e,g” telephone becomes teefone”
Stopping
Stop C replaces fricatives or affricates e.g” ship becomes tip”
