John Dalton/Atomic Theory
Matter is made of indivisible spheres, indestructible, and each element has its own type of “atom”.
Ernest Rutherford/Gold Foil Experiment
Experiment where alpha particles are shot into gold foil, with the alpha particles either being deflected, passing through or bounced back. States how atoms are mostly made up of empty space with a nucleus as the center, and electrons orbiting the nucleus.
Millikan Oil Drop Experiment
Oil drops from the chambers through gravity and the use of x-rays ionized the surrounding air and determined the control of speed of which oil drops fell. Discovered electron charges.
J.J Thomson/Plum Pudding Model
Proposed that atoms are mostly neutral and each atom are combined in a fixed ratio of neutrons and atoms.
Bohr
Electrons orbit around the nucleus and exist in different energy levels. The closer to the nucleus, the less energy each electron had, further to the nucleus, more energy each electron had. Each electron can jump to higher or lower energy level.
