C1 - Preparation of pure dry copper sulphate crystals

Step 1

Using safety goggles, measure 25ml sulphuric acid into conical flask

Step 2

Add excess copper oxide powder to flask then gently heat acid using Bunsen burner whilst stirring solution until no more copper oxide will react

Step 3

Allow solution to cool, then remove remaining copper oxide by filtration using funnel and filter paper and filter into beaker

Step 4

Pour contents into evaporation basin and heat it gently on tripod and gauze on top of beaker half filled with water

Step 5

Stop heating until crystals form then leave solution to evaporate overnight then remove crystals and dry them
