Step 1

Using safety goggles, measure 25ml sulphuric acid into conical flask

Add excess copper oxide powder to flask then gently heat acid using Bunsen burner whilst stirring solution until no more copper oxide will react

Allow solution to cool, then remove remaining copper oxide by filtration using funnel and filter paper and filter into beaker

Pour contents into evaporation basin and heat it gently on tripod and gauze on top of beaker half filled with water
