Matter
Anything that has mass and takes up space.
Particles
Very small unit that makes up matter.
Mass
The amount something weighs in grams and kilograms.
Volume
The amount of space something takes up.
Solid
A state of matter with definite shape and volume and the particles are closely packed.
Liquid
A state of matter with no definite shape and flows freely but is of constant volume.
Gas
A state of matter with no definite shape or volume and the particles are spread out.
Atom
The smallest unit of matter.
Element
A substance that cannot be separated into simpler substances through chemistry.
Molecule
A group of atoms bonded together.
Physical Property
Any property of a substance that can be observed without changing the identity of the substance.
Chemical Property
A property that is observed when a substance undergoes a chemical change.
Malleability
Capability of being shaped.
Magnetism
The property of being attracted to a magnet.
Solubility
The ability of a substance to be dissolved into another substance.
Reactivity
The ability of a substance to undergo a chemical reaction with another substance.
Law of Conservation
Matter cannot be created nor destroyed, only transformed.
Physical Change
A change in the observable properties of matter.
Chemical Change
A change in chemical structure, resulting in a new substance.
