Subject
Who (person) or what (place, thing, quality) the sentence is about
predicate
The part of a sentence that tells something about the subject, including the verb and any objects or modifiers.
Clause
A group of related words with a subject-predicate (dependent or independent)
Dependent clause
Does not express a complete idea
Independent clause
Express a complete idea, stands alone a sentence
Simple sentence
Has ONE subject-verb combo and expresses ONE complete thought (Independent clause) - Ms. DeOlivera had not friends
Compound sentence
Has two or more complete thoughts (Independent + Independent clauses)
Complex sentence
Has one thought beginning w/ subordinating conjunction + complete thought (subordinating conjunction/Dependent clause + Independent clause)
