Corneal Transplant (Keratoplasty)

The surgical transplantation or grafting of healthy corneal tissue from a donor human eye (typically a cadaver) into the eye of a recipient to improve vision in the affected eye, usually performed under local anesthesia.

Extracapsular Cataract Extraction (ECCE)

The surgical removal of the lens and the anterior segment of the lens capsule while leaving the posterior capsule intact, allowing for the insertion of an intraocular lens implant.

Intraocular Lens Implant

The surgical insertion of an artificial lens into a patient's eye following cataract extraction, which restores visual acuity and provides improved depth perception, light refraction, and binocular vision.

Iridectomy

The surgical extraction or removal of a small segment of the iris to open the anterior chamber angle and permit the proper flow of aqueous humor between the anterior and posterior chambers, thereby relieving elevated intraocular pressure.

Laser in situ Keratomileusis (LASIK)

A form of laser vision correction surgery that reshapes the cornea to correct nearsightedness (myopia).

Phacoemulsification

A surgical method of cataract removal that utilizes high-frequency ultrasound vibrations to break up the cloudy lens material into tiny particles, which are then suctioned out of the eye.

Retinal Photocoagulation

A surgical procedure using an argon laser to treat conditions like retinal detachment (where laser heat creates controlled inflammation and adhesions that weld the retinal layers back together) and diabetic retinopathy (where the laser seals microaneurysms and leakage sites to reduce hemorrhage risk).

Trabeculectomy

The surgical excision of a portion of corneoscleral tissue to relieve intraocular pressure in patients with severe glaucoma.

Trabeculoplasty

The surgical creation of a permanent drainage path or fistula to drain excess aqueous humor from the eye's anterior chamber and lower intraocular pressure; laser trabeculoplasty is often performed as an outpatient plastic surgery approach to manage glaucoma.
