Trochlear - Superior oblique muscle of the eye (eye movement downward and laterally)

Cranial Nerve V

Trigeminal - Sensory: face; touch, pain, temp. Motor: muscles of mastication (masseter, temporalis)—chewing

Cranial Nerve VI

Abducens - Lateral rectus muscle of the eye (eye abduction) Lateral eye movement.

Cranial Nerve VII

Facial - Motor: muscles of facial expression, Sensory: taste from anterior 2/3 of tongue

Cranial Nerve VIII

Vestibulocochlear - Sensory; Cochlea (hearing), vestibular apparatus (balance)

Cranial Nerve IX

Glossopharyngeal - Sensory: posterior 1/3 of tongue (taste and general sensation), pharynx; Motor: innervates stylopharyngeus muscle

Cranial Nerve X

Vagus - Sensory: thoracic and abdominal viscera, external ear; Motor: muscles of pharynx, larynx (speech, swallowing) Parasympathetic: heart, lungs, abdominal organs—GI

Cranial Nerve XI

Accessory - Sternocleidomastoid and trapezius muscles (head and shoulder movement)

Cranial Nerve XII

Hypoglossal - Motor: Intrinsic and extrinsic muscles of the tongue (speech and swallowing)
