Lack of oxygen to the body as a whole
Hypemic hypoxia
Lack of oxygen in the blood
What can cause hyperventilation?
Breathing out too much CO2.
Hyperventilation symptoms
Tingling sensation, lightheaded, shortness of breath
Should you fly with a sinus infection?
NO
Why should you not fly with a sinus infection
Body has no source to equalize pressure of body with outside pressure, leading to complications.
How is the pressure in our ears different when we increase altitude?
Ear takes longer to adjust to pressure difference, still has higher pressure compared to outside pressure.
How long should you not fly after scuba diving, 8k feet.
12 hours
How long should you not fly after scuba diving, above 8k feet.
24 hours
ICEFLAGS Acronym
Flight Ilusions
I(ICEFLAGS )
Inversion- When climbing and level off too quickly, a backwards pitch illusion occurs causing the pilot to pitch down.
C(ICEFLAGS )
Coriolis- When in a prolonged turn and a sudden head movement is made, we think that we are pitching up or down causing unnecessary pitch corrections.
E(ICEFLAGS)
Elevator- When a sudden updraft is felt causing the pilot to pitch down excessively.
F(ICEFLAGS)
False Horizon- Lights or buildings looking like the horizion at night
L(ICEFLAGS )
Leans- When turning for a prolonged time, our brain thinks we are straight and level, and when we are actually straight and level we think we are turning, so we turn in the opposite direction.
A(ICEFLAGS)
Autokinesis- Looking at a light for too long makes it look like its moving and the pilot may change the atitude of the aircraft to follow this “moving” light.
G(ICEFLAGS)
Graveyard spiral- When you enter a turn and you feel like you are decending which causes you to pitch up and make the turn tighter, causing a spin.
S(ICEFLAGS)
Somatogravic- When you add power or reduce power, you feel like you are pitching up or down, causing the opposite control input to correct for this feeling.
Describe our engine (4FHANDL)
4 cylinders, 8 spark plus, and 2 magnetos, fuel injected system, horizontally opposed cylinders, air cooled, naturally aspirated, direct drive, Lycoming- IO-360-L2A.
What does throttle control?
Amount of air that is entering the engines, which controls how much power is used.
4 cycles of engine
Intake, compression, combustion, exhaust
How much horse power and RPM does our engine have?
180HP, 2700RPM
What type of alierons do we have?
Differential alierons
What does it mean to have differential alierons?
If turning left for example, the left alieron is up and the right is down, increasing lift on the right wing and decreasing left on the left wing, causing a turn to the left, due to the left alieron going higer than the right one goes down, this prevents adverse yaw and creates an expected turn.
What is adverse yaw?
When the nose turns in the opposite direction of a turn.
What type of trim does the aircraft have? What does this mean?
Servo trim, trim that moves opposite to elevator which helps prevent over controlling takeoff.
What type of flaps do we have?
Single slotted and electrically powered, the wing has flap motors and a rod that pushes the flap down.
What are our secondary controls?
Flaps and trim
What are our primary flight controls?
Alierons,elevator, rudder
What type of shock absorption is provided for main gear and nose wheel?
Main= tubular spring steel nose=air/oil nose gear shock strut.
What type of landing gear do we have
Tricycle
Describe the brake system
Hydraulically actuated brake, caliper and brake disc, and hydrolic main gears, non compressibility of fluid.
How does braking work?
When braking, the caliper clamps onto the brake disk to slow the plane down.
How many gallons of fuel are in each tank?
28 gallons
How many gallons of fuel are usuable in each tank?
26.5 gallons
What type of fuel tanks do we have?

Describe the oil system
Full pressure wet sump with aviation grade oil being the lubricant and an engine driven oil pump.
What does oil do?
Clean, cool, lubricate
What does the bypass valve do?
Allows oil to go to the engines but the oil is not filtered also determines if oil is correct temp.
What does a wet sump system mean?
The oil is located in a tank at the base of the engine
What does the engine driven oil pump do?
Pumps oil to the engine and gravity puts excess oil back down to the sump where it is stored.
What type of electrical system do we have?(amps and volts)
28 volt direct current with 60 amps.
