Power Off Stalls (Stall on landing)
1.CRAAC
2. Carb heat, power 1900 HOLD ALTITUDE (We want the white arc)
3. Below 85 set flaps and stay above 60 kt
4. AT 60 for 3 secs, Power idle and pitch to maintain altitude. Don’t drop
5. Stay on rudders
6. Announce stall horn, buffet, and stall
7. Push down slightly to decrease AOA, cram power and carb, flaps 20
8. Nose just above the horizon, don’t drop
9. Pass 60 kt, flaps 10
10. Capture Vy, positive rate, flaps clean
Power On Stalls (Stall on takeoff)
1. CRAAC
2. Carb heat, power 1500 (We want to get to 50 kt and maintain altitude)
3. See 50 kt, full power, carb in, and pitch up
4. Stay on rudders (typically more right rudder) announce stall horn, buffet, don’t go past 30 bank the plane will stall
5. LOWER NOSE THEN LEVEL WINGS, maintain rudder
6. Nose to horizon don’t drop any more
7. At Vy and positive rate you’re good
Slow flight
1.CRAAC
2. Carb heat, power 1600 (Want flaps and maintain altitude)
3. Maintain altitude and below 85 add your flaps
4. Be at 5-10kt above stall speed. Power whatever keeps you level
Slow flight recovery
Full power, carb in, flaps 20
Nose to horizon, hold altitude
At 60kt, flaps 10
Vy and positive rate, clean flaps
Steep Turns
CRAAC
90kt, straight and level
Roll 45 degrees to the left, while adding two swipes of trim
When ref point in sight, roll to the right and ensure altitude and speed
Fight the balloon, use outside reference
Unusual Attitude Nose Up
Full power-Wings level
Lower nose
Pitch, power, trim
Unusual attitude Nose down
Power Idle-Wings level
Slowly raise nose
Pitch power trim
Soft Field Takeoff (MINIMAL BRAKING)
Takeoff brief before entering runway
Flaps 10
Elevator fully back
Verify runway, full power, gauges green
Soften back pressure but keep front wheel up
After wheels up, lower nose to build airspeed
At Vx or Vy, see positive rate and flaps clean
Short field takeoff
Takeoff briefing before entering runway
Flaps 10
Taxi onto centerline and hold as much runway as possible
Hold brakes, full power, gauges green
Release brakes, at 50 kt rotate
Climb at Vx until obstacle is cleared (Vx)
After obstacle is cleared, reduce flaps and climb at Vy
Soft Field Landing
Regular Traffic Pattern UNTIL FLARE
Maintain flare until touchdown
Stay nose high/yoke back and keep weight off nosewheel
Short Field Landing
Regular traffic pattern until touchdown
Once wheels touch down, raise flaps and similar max braking
Rectangular Course
Enter at a 45 degree angle to the downwind-No wind correction
Base turn, you want it steep so you don’t go outward
On base leg, aim slightly into the wind
Base to upwind, you want a normal turn
On the upwind you don’t need wind correction, should be at your slowest
Upwind to crosswind turn, do a slower turn since wind is pushing you in anyways.
On crosswind, face away from the rectangle since wind is pushing you into it
Crosswind to downwind, sharper turn
Exit on downwind
At what point do you make your turn after crossing your line or road on S turns?
Immediately.
What is Vy on a 152 in Colorado?
63
What is Vx on a 152 in Colorado?
54
Engine failure what do you do?
Airspeed best glide-Trim if needed
Best place to land
Restart engine floor to door (Gas on, mixture enriched, throttle engage (for full airflow and fuel), carb heat on, ignition on both, primer in and locked
Circle or be in a patten for your place to land
Communicate. Squack 7700 and 121.5
Continue best glide until field is made, and once you know, use flaps and pitch.
Shutdown engine procedure-Fuel off, mixture off, ignition off, master as required, unlatch doors
Emergency descent?
Powerr IDLE
45 degrees of bank
Descend at 90 or more
Your engine is on fire
FLOOR TO DOOR
Fuel off
Mixture off
Master off
Keep mags
Cabin heat and air off/in
If it went out, master can come on, best place, communicate, flaps
Still on, pitch down till 100kt
Wingtip is on fire
Slip away from the fire while turning master off
Lights off
Pitot off
No flaps
Master on IF fire is out, and go to airport (when practical)
Electrical Fire
Master and all switches off (avionics, comms, speakers)
Cabin heat and air off/in and close vents
If fire is out, open vents to clear smoke, and turn master on and necessary switches
The Ammeter is showing an excessive rate of charge
ALTERNATOR OFF
Anything non-essential comes off
Land as soon as practical
The ammeter is showing a discharge/low voltage
Reduce the electrical load. Turn off avionics, lights, unnecessary avionics (Keep only essentials on)
Alternator switch off then back on after a bit (Maybe reset alternator circuit breaker?)
If still off, keep alternator off and expect battery-only operation
Land as soon as practical
Engine fire during start
CONTINUE CRANKING, we want a start
IF IT STARTS-power 1700 for a bit then shutdown
IF IT DOESN’T START-Continue cranking, master, ignition, and fuel off. Extinguish fire if possible
