Denial
acts as a buffer that gives people a chance to think about the news, thoughts might be: "it's not true" "I just saw that person yesterday..."
Anger
Someone may be angry at the person for their actions, the situation or blame others. If the person is dealing with a terminal illness, thought might be more about: "Why me?" "This is not fair..."
Bargaining
A final attempt to avoid the inevitable. People who believe in God may promise to "be good" or reform their life in exchange for a miraculous recovery
Depression
Feeling and experiencing the physical, emotional and reality of the loss, whether it be a family member, friend, pet, or the loss of dreams, relationships, or ideas.
Sadness
Acceptance
Coming to peace with the inevitable. This is a process and it takes a different amount of time for every person based on other losses they have had in their life previously. Taking care of business: wills, personal affairs, funeral arrangements and saying goodbyes.
