biased information used to promote a particular political cause or point of view

Militarism

the belief that a country should maintain a strong military capability and be prepared for war.

Alliance

an association formed between countries formed for a mutual benefit

Total War

when all of a country's resources are dedicated to the war effort

Rationing

controlled distribution of resources/limiting resources

Self-Determination

the process by which a country determines its own statehood and forms its own allegiances and government.

Nationalism

A strong feeling of pride in and devotion to one's country

Schlieffen Plan

A strategy drawn up by Germany to avoid fighting a war on two fronts

Eastern Front

a stretch of battlefield along the German and Russian border

Western Front

the region of Northern France where the forces of the Allies and the Central Powers battled each other, along the border between France & Germany

Trench Warfare

Opposing armies fight each other from trenches dug in the battlefield.

Stalemate

A deadlock in which neither side is able to defeat the other or make progress
