What does insulin do?
Hormone that keeps blood sugar stable and directs nutrients toward storage or growth.
(your body’s traffic cop for nutrients. It tells glucose and amino acids where to go and what to do)
how does Chromium Picolinate help insulin?
Improves your insulin sensitivity
your cells respond better when insulin tells them to take in glucose.
Increase in sensitivity→ less insulin to get the same job done.
Where is chromium found?
Found in:
Nuts
seeds
mushrooms
dried beans
broccoli
brewers yeast
What is Picolinate?
the carrier molecule attached to chromium to help your body absorb it better.
The delivery system
How does chromium work with simple sugars and exercise?
Taking more chromium doesn’t mean you absorb more. Your body only ramps up chromium use when insulin demand goes up, which happens with sugar intake and strenuous exercise.
If eat a bunch of chromium will all of that chromium get used?
NO
More does not = Better
The only times chromium is used more is:
Ingestion of simple sugars
Exercise
What dose of Chromium Picolinate needs to be taken for improved glucose uptake + Lower cholesterol levels to be seen?
1000µg
How long did type 2 diabetes have to take Chromium for it to work?
4 months
If someone is deficient in chromium that means they have diabetes. T or F.
False
how does Chromium affect CV disease?
Positively effects cholesterol levels
Especially HDL’s
Does it affect CV directly or indirectly, how?
Indirectly:
Improving insulin sensitivity
Lowering LDL’s + Triglycerides
Reducing metabolic stress
What is the hexavalent form of chromium?
the industrial, toxic, cancer-linked form.
element is in the plus 6 oxidation state.
That’s why it’s called “hexavalent.”
What is the safe form of chromium?
Chromium picolinate and chromium III are trivalent chromium
Symptoms?
Headaches
Sleep disturbances
Mood swings
