Glorious revolution

in 1688 there was a revolution that created a constitutional monarchy where the king and queen were able to enjoy a royal lifestyle while the role of the government was to protect the rights of the people.

Declaration of Independence

On July 4, 1776 the US declared independence from Great Britain, and it established the principles of our country and everyone was free

The enlightenment

A new culture of questioning authority and tradition to create a better society. Less cruel and unusual punishments, while people started using logic and reason. England (1700s)

Principia

Issac newtons book in 1687 that explains the movement of everything and it inspired others to explore other ideas

Glorious revolution

Cruel kings in England that led to anarchy so the British chased them out of the country. William and Mary invited to live the lifestyle of royalty but had little power. 1688-1689

English bill of rights

Freedom of speech, bear arms, habeas corpus, etc. similar to future us government

13 colonies

Controlled by an English king, governor chosen for each state to enforce British rule.

French and Indian war

British vs. France over territory in North America. Washington ambushed the French which led to the English winning but running out of money.

Taxed in the states

Mid 1670s the British started taxing Americans and raised taxes on everything to gain money back from the war. Americans got mad and started protesting “no taxation without representation“. Events like the Boston massacre, Boston tea [arty and battle of L and C occurred at this time.

Continental congress

Each state voting on wether or not to declare independence and separate from GB, every colony but NY voted yes and then the declaration of independence was made and signed.

Articles of confederation

This government focused of having power to the stated not the federal government. Each stare had its own laws, currency, taxes, etc. opposite of the British government. Failed

Shay’s rebellion and Daniel Shay

Veterans from the war didn’t get paid, they got land which only made them poorer so a veteran named Daniel Shay held a rebellion with other soldiers. There was a small war in Massachusetts but they lost. This led to the United States writing a new constitution.
