Ectoparasite
A parasite that lives on the exterior surface of a host.
Endoparasite

Microorganism
A microscopic organism, which may exist in its single-celled form or as a colony of cells.
Host
An organism that provides nourishment and habitat for a parasite.
Interspecies Associations
Interactions between different species, including relationships like mutualism, commensalism, and parasitism.
Aberrant parasite
A parasite that is found in an unusual location within the host.
Obligatory parasite
A parasite that cannot complete its life cycle without exploiting a suitable host.
Definitive host
The host in which a parasite reaches maturity and, if applicable, reproduces.
Intermediate host
An organism that harbors the immature or non-reproductive forms of the parasite.
Facultative parasite
A free-living organism that can become parasitic under certain conditions.
Prepatent period
The time between infection and the first detection of the parasite in the host.
Infection
