behind

In or to a position further back than something else.

in the background

The part of a picture that is behind the main objects.

in the bottom right hand corner

The lower right area of a photograph.

in the centre

In the exact middle of a photograph.

in the distance

Far away from the person looking at or taking the photo.

in the foreground

The part of a picture that is nearest to you.

in front of

Further forward than something else.

in the top left hand corner

The upper left area of a photograph.

on top of

Resting on the highest surface of an object in the photo.

at the top of

Situated at the highest point of the whole picture.

opposite

In a position facing something or someone.

flash

A sudden bright light used when taking a photo somewhere dark, for example indoors or at night.

zoom in

To make the subject appear closer when you are far away and want to take a detailed photo.

out of focus

When an image is not clear, often because the right settings were not used.

portrait setting

A camera mode used when you want to take a photo of a person.

overexposed

A photo that has too much light on the subject.

lens

The glass part of a camera that focuses light to form an image.

wide angle lens

A type of lens used when you want to take a photo of a large space but cannot get all of it in normally.

edit

To change the size, colour or brightness of a photograph.

close up

A photograph taken from a very short distance to capture fine details.

landscape

A wide view photograph of land or nature.

settings

The manual or automatic controls on a camera that determine how it works.
