Stomach
The organ in the digestive system that holds food while it is mixed with stomach enzymes and acids.
Diaphragm
A dome-shaped muscle that separates the chest from the abdomen and plays a crucial role in breathing.
Heart
The muscular organ that pumps blood throughout the body via the circulatory system.
Liver
The largest internal organ, responsible for various functions including detoxification, protein synthesis, and production of biochemicals necessary for digestion.
Lungs
The pair of respiratory organs located in the chest, responsible for gas exchange.
Kidney
A pair of organs that filter blood, remove waste, and produce urine.
Gall Bladder
A small organ that stores bile produced by the liver until it is needed for digestion.
Mesentery
A fold of tissue that attaches the intestines to the posterior abdominal wall, providing support and containing blood vessels.
Small Intestine - Duodenum
The first section of the small intestine, where most chemical digestion occurs.
Small Intestine - Jejunum
The middle section of the small intestine, primarily responsible for nutrient absorption.
Small Intestine - Ilum
The final part of the small intestine, which absorbs vitamin B12 and bile salts.
Large Intestine - Cecum
The beginning of the large intestine that connects to the ileum and contains the appendix.
Large Intestine - Colon
The longest section of the large intestine, responsible for water absorption and forming feces.
Large Intestine - Rectum
The final section of the large intestine that stores feces before excretion.
Trachea
The windpipe that connects the larynx to the bronchi of the lungs, allowing air to pass through.
Larynx
The voice box located in the throat; it is responsible for vocalization and protecting the trachea against food aspiration.
Esophagus
The muscular tube that connects the throat (pharynx) with the stomach.
Bladder
The organ that stores urine before it is expelled from the body.
Pancreas
A gland that produces enzymes for digestion and hormones such as insulin.
