Importance of Cell Cycle
The cell cycle is crucial for the growth, development, and maintenance of living organisms. Understanding the cell cycle is essential for studying diseases like cancer, as abnormalities in cell cycle regulation can lead to uncontrolled cell growth. Overall, the cell cycle is of utmost importance in maintaining the integrity and functionality of living organisms.
Stages of the Cell Cycle
1) G1 Phase: Prep of cell for DNA replication
2) S Phase: DNA replication
3) G2 Phase: Cell growth
4) M Phase: Sorting of material for separation of a cell into two daughter cells
M-Phase
1) Prophase: Chromosome begin to condense and the mitotic spindles begin to assemble
2)Prometaphase: Breakdown of the nuclear envelope and the attachment of the chromosome to the spindle happen
3)Metaphase: Alignment of the chromosome in the middle at the equator
4)Anaphase: Sister chromatids separate and are pulled apart toward the spindle poles
5)Telophase: The full set of daughter chromosomes arrive at the spindle poles a contractile ring begins to form and the nuclear membrane begins to re-form
6) Cytokinesis: The contractile ring squeezes the cell to form two daughter cells which forms a cleavage furrow.
Mitosis
dividing of the genetic material aka nuclear division. Consists of Prophase, Prometaphase, Metaphase, Anaphase, and Telophase
Cytokinesis
Division of the cytoplasm and the contents of the cell aka cytoplasm division.
