Anxiety disorders

A group of disorders characterized by excessive fear, anxiety, and related maladaptive behaviors.

Social anxiety disorder

Intense fear and avoidance of social situations.

Generalized anxiety disorder

A state of continual tension, apprehension, and automatic nervous system arousal.

Panic disorder

Marked by unpredictable, intense episodes of fear, terror, and physical sensations like chest pain or choking.

Specific phobia

Persistent, irrational fear and avoidance of a specific object, activity, or situation.

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)

Characterized by unwanted repetitive thoughts (obsessions) and actions (compulsions).

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

Involves haunting memories, nightmares, hypervigilance, and avoidance after a traumatic experience.

Trauma and stress-related disorders

Psychological distress following exposure to a traumatic or stressful event.

Somatic symptom disorder

Symptoms take a bodily form without an apparent physical cause.

Illness anxiety disorder

Interpreting normal physical sensations as symptoms of a disease (hypochondriasis).
