Nucleus
the CONTROL center of the cell. It contains DNA, the instructions for the cell.
Chloroplast
uses light energy and makes FOOD, a sugar called glucose, water, and carbon dioxide in a process called photosynthesis.
Lysosome
an organelle that helps break down and RECYCLE different parts of the cell
Ribosomes
an organelle that makes PROTEINS
Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER)
a TRANSPORT system that carries and DELIVERS proteins and other cell materials from one part of the cell to another
Mitochondria
an organelle that is the powerhouse of the cell. This organelle helps produce ENERGY.
Golgi apparatus
an organelle that PACKAGES materials in the cell and prepares it for transport
Cell Membrane
a cell structure that is a flexible COVERING that protects the inside of a cell from the environment outside the cell
Vacuole
an organelle that STORES food, water, and waste materials for the cell
Cell wall
is a stiff structure OUTSIDE the cell membrane found only in PLANT cells
Cytoplasm
The jelly-like FLUID inside a cell is made of water, salts, and other molecules.
Flagella
long TAIL-like structures found in one-celled organisms to aid in movement
Cilia
The HAIR-like projections on the outside of cells that move in a wavelike manner and help with movement
Cytoskeleton
made of threadlike proteins that are joined together and gives SHAPE and structure to the cell
Vesicle
are organelles that transport substances to other parts of the cell
Chlorophyll
a green PIGMENT, present in all green plants responsible for the absorption of light energy.
