Sciatic nerve

femoral triangle
bounded by inguinal ligament, sartorius, adductor longus

popliteal fossa
sciatic nerve, artery and vein

tensor fasciae latae
Connects to the IT band. A muscle located on the lateral aspect of the hip that works to flex and abduct the thigh

iliotibial band
A thick band of connective tissue that runs along the outer thigh from the hip to the knee, providing stability to the lateral aspect of the knee.

sartorius
A long, thin muscle that runs down the length of the thigh. It is responsible for flexing, abducting, and externally rotating the hip.

iliopsoas
group of two muscles

pectineus
located in the upper thigh, it assists in hip flexion and adduction.

adductor longus
a muscle in the inner thigh that primarily facilitates hip adduction.

adductor magnus
a large muscle in the inner thigh that assists in hip adduction, extension, and also helps stabilize the pelvis.

adductor brevis
a short muscle located in the inner thigh that aids in hip adduction and flexion.

gracilis
a long, thin muscle in the inner thigh that assists in hip adduction and flexion, as well as medial rotation of the thigh.

adductor longus primary action
adducts hip
adductor magnus primary action
adducts hip
adductor brevis primary action
adducts hip
biceps femoris (long head)
posterior lateral muscle of the thigh that flexes the knee and extends the hip.

biceps femoris (short head)
posterior lateral muscle of the thigh that flexes the knee.

semitendinosus
t for top of the hamstrings, this muscle is responsible for flexing the knee and extending the hip.

semimembranosus
b for bottom of the hamstrings, this muscle is responsible for flexing the knee and extending the hip.

biceps femoris primary action
flex knee, extend the hip
semitendinosus primary action
flex knee, extend hip
semimembranosus primary action
flex knee, extend hip
quadriceps femoris rectus femoris
the largest and one of the four muscles that make up the quadriceps femoris group.

quadriceps femoris vastus lateralis
one of the four muscles in the quadriceps femoris group, located on the lateral side of the thigh, primarily responsible for extending the knee.

quadriceps femoris vastus medialis
one of the four muscles in the quadriceps femoris group, situated on the medial side of the thigh, and is crucial for knee extension.

quadriceps femoris vastus intermedius
one of the four muscles in the quadriceps femoris group, located underneath the rectus femoris and plays a significant role in extending the knee.

all quardriceps femoris primary action
extend knee
tibialis anterior
muscle located in the anterior compartment of the lower leg

extensor hallucis longus
connected to big toe!!!

extensor digitorum longus
connected to toes 2-5

peroneus longus
A muscle in the lateral compartment of the lower leg that helps in foot eversion and plantar flexion.

peroneus brevis
A muscle in the lateral compartment of the lower leg that assists in foot eversion and also contributes to plantar flexion.

gastrocnemius
The major calf muscle that flexes the knee and plantar flexes the foot.

soleus
A deep calf muscle that works to plantar flex the foot and stabilize the leg.

calcaneal tendon
Also known as the Achilles tendon, it connects the calf muscles (gastrocnemius and soleus) to the heel bone and is vital for walking, running, and jumping.

flexor hallucis longus
A muscle in the lower leg that flexes the big toe and assists in plantar flexion of the foot.

tibialis posterior
A muscle located in the back of the lower leg that plays a key role in plantar flexion and inversion of the foot.

flexor digitorum longus
A muscle in the lower leg that flexes the four lesser toes and assists in plantar flexion and inversion of the foot.

popliteus
A small muscle located at the back of the knee that helps in unlocking the knee from a fully extended position and assists with medial rotation of the tibia.

extensor retinaculum
A band of fibrous tissue in the ankle that holds the tendons of the muscles in place during dorsiflexion of the foot.

what does hallucis mean
Referring to the great toe or big toe.
tibialis anterior primary action
dorsiflex foot
peroneus primary action
everts foot
gastrocnemius primary action
plantarflexes foot
soleus primary action
plantarflexes foot
tibialis posterior primary action
plantar flexes foot
