Sufficient Assumption (SA)
An assumption that, if added to the premises of an argument, makes the argument valid.
Conditional Chain SA
A type of sufficient assumption involving conditional logic where premises form one chain, and the missing assumption completes this chain.
Categorical SA
A type of sufficient assumption that uses categorical terms ('all,' 'none,' 'every') where the missing link connects categorical concepts.
Multi-Branch Conditional SA
A type of sufficient assumption characterized by multiple conditional arrows that do not form a single chain.
Backward Conclusion
A conclusion that contains negation or moves in the opposite direction of the premises, requiring flipping to a forward form before solving.
Universal Hyperfocus Rule
A rule that specifies circling the last term reached by premises and the necessary term of the conclusion to identify the missing assumption.
Missing Assumption
The assumption necessary to bridge the gap between the premises and the conclusion of an argument.
Example of Conditional Chain SA
If the premises are 'unfamiliarcmds → expensivetraining → nopurchase,' the missing assumption for 'unfamiliarcmds → notsuccessful' is 'nopurchase → not_successful.'
Example of Categorical SA
If the categories are 'athlete → muscular → fit,' the missing assumption connecting to 'athlete → disciplined' is 'fit → disciplined.'
Example of Multi-Branch Conditional SA
Involving multiple arrows like 'expand → profit, strongsales → reach, succeed → newcustomers,' the missing assumption for 'expand → succeed' is 'profit → succeed.'
